About these numbers
Weekly: European Commission Weekly Oil Bulletin, national averages including taxes, prices of 19 October 2026. The EU figure is the consumption-weighted average (simple average of the 27 national prices: petrol €1.932, diesel €2.084).
Live: averages of the stations reporting to official national registers; the station count is the one shown on each live country page. Freshness: green up to 6 h, amber 6 to 24 h, grey “stale” over 24 h (listed last). Times are shown in your time zone and “x h ago” is computed in your browser from the update time in the data. 7-day change (live): the daily average of all reporting stations on the latest day against the same market’s daily average 7 days earlier, both from the station history; the percentage is worked out from the two rounded averages shown in the country details. The live price on the card is the latest snapshot, so it can differ slightly from the latest daily average.
Germany is shown only as in the European Commission bulletin; there is no live feed for it on this site.
This page is in euro, the currency of the EU bulletin, without conversion; the currency button converts each price at the rate of its own date. How we convert; every rate with its source and date: full list, Markdown, JSON.
How we convert. Prices are collected and ranked in euro. Each currency uses the latest rate below for live prices; weekly prices use the rate of the bulletin date (details further down). ECB = European Central Bank euro reference rate (published on TARGET working days around 16:00 CET). BNM, NBRM, NBS, BoA, NBU = the official rates of the National Bank of Moldova, of North Macedonia, of Serbia, the Bank of Albania and the National Bank of Ukraine (used where the ECB publishes none; a currency with no official rate in the last 7 days is disabled). Fixed = the euro peg of the Bosnian mark. An ECB rate older than 4 days (a national-bank rate older than 7) is marked “last rate”. ECB rates are refreshed daily at about 04:10 and 16:10 CET.
Currency selector: prices are stored and ranked in euro; the currency button converts what is shown, at the rate of the day of the price. Headline figures (title, first paragraph, top figures) stay in euro, the official European Commission number, with your currency in brackets; the text sections at the bottom stay in euro. US dollar prices are shown per US gallon, all others per litre. Rates used:
US prices in other currencies use the ECB rate of 19 Oct 2026, the date of the EIA price, where the ECB publishes one.
The chart since 2005 converts each week at the ECB rate of that week; currencies without an ECB history (ALL, MDL, MKD, RSD, UAH) stay in euro there.
EU average since 2005: the weekly EU-27 consumption-weighted petrol and diesel averages of the European Commission bulletin, 1089 weeks from 3 Jan 2005. The “Since” figures compare the latest week with the first bulletin week on or after 14 days before the event: change = latest ÷ reference − 1, for petrol and diesel separately. Event dates come from the site’s event timeline; the “2022 peak” is the highest weekly EU petrol price of 2022 in this series.
Diesel − petrol (panel under the chart): the weekly difference between the two EU averages, in the chart’s unit; red when diesel is dearer, green when it is cheaper. Real prices (the Real switch): each week is divided by the EU-27 harmonised index of consumer prices (Eurostat, monthly, all items) of its month and expressed in euros of the latest published month (Aug 2026); weeks after that month use the latest index. Real prices are always shown in euro.
United States: U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) weekly retail prices for the week of 19 Oct 2026, taxes included; midgrade gasoline (89 AKI, about 93–95 RON) is the Euro 95 equivalent, as on the EU vs US page. Dollars per gallon become euros per litre at the ECB rate of 19 Oct 2026 (€1 = $1.1225; 1 gallon = 3.785 L).

Live prices are averages of the stations reporting to official national registers in 11 European markets (for example ANPC in Romania, E-Control in Austria, Prix-Carburants in France), updated through the day. Each live figure shows when it was last updated.
Why are there different "EU average" prices?
We show the weighted average published by the European Commission, where each country counts according to its fuel consumption. A simple average of the 27 national prices gives €1.932 for petrol and €2.084 for diesel; it is not used as the headline figure.
Highway vs City Fuel Prices
The prices shown above are national averages. Motorway stations can be dearer, but by how much depends on the country, and for most countries there is no official figure. Italy: at self-service pumps the motorway price is the same as on other roads; assisted service costs about 4–6% more (MIMIT data, 18 Oct 2026). France: motorway stations about 3–4% dearer (official price feed, 19 Oct 2026). Germany: about 15% (ADAC, MTS-K data, published 7 Jul 2026). Slovenia: about 10–13%, because the regulated price does not apply on motorways and expressways (gov.si; our station data, 19 Oct 2026). Belgium: the legal maximum price applies at every station, motorways included. See the motorway premium by country.
