The FPE Index measures how much pump prices have MOVED in Europe, not what they cost. On 2026-09-15 it stands at 134.1 for diesel and 128.5 for petrol 95, with 2026-01-05 = 100. Over the last seven days diesel moved +2.19% and petrol +1.56%; since 2026-01-05, +34.10% and +28.52%. The weighted average pump price behind the diesel index is 2.143 EUR per litre, taxes included, across 8 European markets and 50902 stations. Method: a chained Jevons index on a MATCHED SAMPLE — the daily change is the mean of log price relatives computed only on stations present on both days, so stations or whole markets entering the panel never move the index. Weights are road-transport fuel consumption (Eurostat 2024), covering 50.5% of EU-27 road diesel. The daily series starts 2026-06-27; before that the series is WEEKLY, built with the same formula from the European Commission Weekly Oil Bulletin for all 27 member states, back to 2005-01-03. A published day is never revised.
