INDEX METHODOLOGY
The European Union Energy Fear & Greed Index correlates energy costs directly with local purchasing power and macroeconomic stability, providing a clear "stress score" for EU citizens.
Primary Data Sources & Spans:
- Electricity: Eurostat (nrg_pc_204). Data Span: 2007-S1 to 2025-S1. Bi-annual semester data for consumption band DC.
- Transport Fuels: EC Weekly Oil Bulletin. Data Span: 2005-01-03 to 2026-05-25. Updated Weekly.
- Economic Stability: Eurostat (earn_nt_net) for wages and ECB HICP for inflation data. Data Span: 2005 to 2024.
LIFE QUALITY SCORE (0-100)
The Life Quality Score ranks countries based on the "Effort vs Reward" ratio. It normalizes data across the EU to find the most affordable places to live relative to local wages.
Formula Weights:
- 40% Net Wage: Higher wages increase the score.
- 40% Purchasing Power: Lower work hours for energy increase the score.
- 20% Stability: Lower inflation increases the score.
