Licence for reuse
The charts, tables and data files listed below may be reused under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0) — also commercially, with a credit and a link. This page says what is covered, the exact credit line, what is not covered, and the terms of the sources the figures come from. It is a description of our licence, not legal advice.
What is free
CC BY 4.0 applies to our own contribution — the selection, the calculations (averages, rankings, changes over a period, the cost of a full tank, conversions, “in today’s money” series, indexes) and the design of these visuals and files:
- The charts made with the chart generator: the EU price map, price history (the EU average or a country against it), rankings and changes over any period, the cost of a full tank, comparisons, indexes and series in today’s money — as images (PNG, SVG), as embeds (
/charts/embed/…) and as data files (/charts/data.csv,/charts/data.json). - The live ranking of the chart generator, which uses only national feeds that publish an open licence: France, Greece, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom.
- The station map of the chart generator (one market at a time — only markets whose source publishes an open licence: France, Greece, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Victoria and Western Australia): the image, the embed and its data file, which contains only our aggregates (the median of each square, or the average of each region), not the raw station prices of the source.
- The download files of the press room (
/press/dl/…,/press/todays-numbers.csv): they contain the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin and the live markets with an open licence; a note in each file names the markets left out. - The price widget (
/widget/embed/): the weekly EU Weekly Oil Bulletin figures and, only for markets whose source publishes an open licence, the live average with its source.
The legal code of the licence: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.en.

Text (inside an image, in a caption or in print):
Source: fuel-prices.eu (https://www.fuel-prices.eu/charts/), CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Data: European Commission, EU Weekly Oil Bulletin, processed by fuel-prices.eu. Not an official publication of the European Commission.HTML (online):

Data: <a href="https://energy.ec.europa.eu/data-and-analysis/weekly-oil-bulletin_en">European Commission, EU Weekly Oil Bulletin</a>, processed by fuel-prices.eu.</p>Add these lines when they apply — every chart of the generator already draws them in the image when they are needed:
- Converted amounts: “Exchange rates: ECB euro foreign exchange reference rate of [date]; conversion by fuel-prices.eu.”
- Series in today’s money: “Inflation: Eurostat HICP (prc_hicp_minr), accessed [date]; calculation by fuel-prices.eu. Eurostat is not responsible for this calculation.”
- United Kingdom: “Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: DESNZ Fuel Finder.”
- Other live prices: the source and its licence, as printed on the chart (France and Spain with the date of the last update): prix-carburants.gouv.fr (Licence Ouverte 2.0) · MIMIT (IODL 2.0) · Geoportal Gasolineras, MITECO (RD 1495/2011) · data.gov.gr / fuelprices.gr (CC BY 4.0).
If you crop an image, keep the credit: the short mark “fuel-prices.eu · CC BY 4.0” sits inside the chart area, the full credit line below it.
What is not covered
- Live prices from sources without a published licence. They are shown on their pages on fuel-prices.eu, with attribution, but we cannot give a licence the source has not given, so they are not in our charts, embeds or downloads: Australia — New South Wales, Australia — Northern Territory, Australia — Tasmania, Austria, Croatia, Czechia (maximum prices of the Ministry of Finance), Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden (chain list prices). Details for every source: Sources & licences.
- The maps of the live pages (base map from OpenStreetMap data via Protomaps; station locations from OpenStreetMap for some countries): © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL), which requires share-alike. They cannot be offered under CC BY. The outlines of the maps in the chart generator come from Natural Earth (public domain), not from OpenStreetMap.
- Logos and trademarks — of fuel brands, of the European Commission and of any other organisation — are not licensed.
- The site itself (design, texts of the pages, logo): see the Terms of Use. Quoting our figures with the credit line needs no permission.
Upstream data
- EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (European Commission, DG ENER): reused under CC BY 4.0, as set out in the Commission’s legal notice (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU). Our charts show our calculations on it; they are not an official publication of the European Commission and do not imply any endorsement.
- European Central Bank euro reference rates: the ECB reuse conditions ask to cite the ECB as the source and to state any modification — our conversions are marked “conversion by fuel-prices.eu”. These conditions are not a Creative Commons licence.
- Eurostat HICP (inflation): reuse is authorised with acknowledgement under the Eurostat copyright notice; our “in today’s money” series are our calculation, and Eurostat is not responsible for it.
- National live feeds with an open licence:
- France — Ministère de l’Économie (DGCCRF) — prix-carburants.gouv.fr: Licence Ouverte / Open Licence 2.0 (Etalab). Credit: “Source: Ministère de l’Économie — prix-carburants.gouv.fr, with the date of the last update”.
- Italy — Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy (MIMIT): Italian Open Data License 2.0 (IODL 2.0). Credit: “Fonte: Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy (MIMIT); not an official MIMIT publication”.
- Spain — Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico: Reuse conditions of the Ministry (Law 37/2007, RD 1495/2011). Credit: “Source: Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica — Geoportal Gasolineras, with the date of the last update”.
- Greece — Ministry of Development — fuelprices.gr, published on data.gov.gr: CC BY 4.0. Credit: “Source: data.gov.gr / fuelprices.gr — CC BY 4.0”.
- United Kingdom — Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ); service operated by VE3 Global: Open Government Licence v3.0. Credit: “Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Source: DESNZ Fuel Finder”.
The Spanish conditions also ask that the content is not altered and that the date of the last update is given: our charts give that date and mark our own calculations as such.
- Natural Earth (country and region outlines of the chart maps, including the station map): public domain, no permission needed.
- Victoria and Western Australia (station map only): “© State of Victoria accessed via the Victorian Government Service Victoria Platform” (CC BY 4.0); “Source: FuelWatch, Government of Western Australia — CC BY 4.0”.
Changes and corrections
The charts show our calculations, and each image says what we did with the data (“processed by fuel-prices.eu”, conversions, inflation adjustment). When a source corrects its figures, the charts, embeds and data files follow at the next update; an embed always shows the current version, while images and files already downloaded keep the version of their date. A licence given under CC BY 4.0 cannot be withdrawn for copies already distributed. If you find an error, tell us and we will correct it.
No warranty
The charts and data are provided “as is”, without warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a purpose, as set out in the Terms of Use. In case of conflict between those terms and CC BY 4.0, CC BY 4.0 prevails for the charts, tables and data files listed on this page.
