Fuel price data for research

Four ready-made data sets on European pump prices: the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin since 2005, daily national and regional statistics from 19 of our 21 live markets in Europe plus Australia, and station-level prices for France, Italy, Spain and Croatia. Free to use in papers, theses and teaching — please cite us with a link.

What’s available

CSV (ZIP) holds one CSV file and opens with a double-click. .csv.gz files are for scripts; on a Mac or PC, download the ZIP.

Every file is UTF-8, with a decimal point and ISO 8601 dates. CSV files end with a few comment lines (starting with #) that name the source; in pandas use read_csv(url, comment="#"), which reads the .csv.gz and the ZIP directly. The Parquet files carry the same text in their metadata. SHA-256 checksums: checksums.txt · changes and known gaps: CHANGELOG.md.

Fair use. Download each file once; automated bulk downloading is rate-limited (bursts of more than 60 files in 10 minutes are blocked for an hour). For bulk or scheduled access, write to hi@fuel-prices.eu.

EU Weekly Oil Bulletin panel

D1

National average prices of Euro-super 95 petrol and diesel, all taxes included, reported every week by each EU country to the European Commission — one tidy panel, in euros and in national currency per litre, plus the Commission’s own consumption-weighted EU27 and euro-area averages.

National daily statistics from live station feeds

D2

For every market, fuel and day: mean, median, 10th and 90th percentile of pump prices and the number of stations, in euros and in national currency, with the ECB exchange rate used. Computed by us from the official national feeds, which we collect as often as each feed updates, from every 30 minutes to once a day.

From, To and Days count the same days: every day in the file, including days flagged low_coverage. Days can be fewer than the span when a feed had no data. *Full national coverage (at least 50% of the usual stations) from: Austria 22 Jul 2026; Australia (NSW, VIC, WA, TAS, NT feeds) 3 Aug 2026; Italy 25 Jun 2026.

Preview: Diesel on 26 Sep 2026: the 10 markets with the lowest median pump price in euros — not ranked: Moldova, North Macedonia and Serbia (no ECB euro rate; national currency only); Sweden (chain list prices, not pump prices)

Station-level prices: France, Italy, Spain, Croatia

D4

Every fuel at every station, every day: station ID, brand, city, region, coordinates, fuel, price, and — from 26 September 2026 — the time the station reported the price and the time we read it (left empty for 8.6% of those rows, where the station changed its price between our morning snapshot and our 13:20 (Bucharest time) read; see the README). One file per country and month. Only these four countries: their governments publish the data under an open licence, which travels with the files.

Not in the live-feed files (D2–D4): Portugal and Andorra. The Portuguese station feed (DGEG) forbids commercial use and the Andorran source reserves all rights, so we leave both out of those downloads. Portugal’s weekly prices are in D1: they come from the European Commission, under CC BY 4.0. Germany appears only as rows of the EU bulletin (D1).

Sources that publish no licence (Greece, United Kingdom, Iceland, Austria, Lithuania, Slovenia, Denmark) and sources whose terms we have not verified appear only through our own statistics (D2, D3) — never as station-level data.
