Fuel price data for research
Four ready-made data sets on European pump prices: the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin since 2005, daily national and regional statistics from 11 of our 16 live markets in Europe, and station-level prices for France, Italy, Spain and Croatia. Free to use in papers, theses and teaching — please cite us with a link.

Before you download
Formats, checksums and fair use
CSV (ZIP) holds one CSV file and opens with a double-click. .csv.gz files are for scripts; on a Mac or PC, download the ZIP. Every file is UTF-8, with a decimal point and ISO 8601 dates. CSV files end with a few comment lines (starting with #) that name the source; in pandas use read_csv(url, comment="#"), which reads the .csv.gz and the ZIP directly. The Parquet files carry the same text in their metadata.
Fair use. Download each file once; automated bulk downloading is rate-limited: from one IP address, 150 or more files in 10 minutes, or more than one and a half times the complete data set in an hour (at least 600 MB), is blocked for an hour. One full download of every file stays well below both limits. For bulk or scheduled access, write to hi@fuel-prices.eu.
EU Weekly Oil Bulletin panel
Euro-super 95 and diesel, all taxes included, every EU country, every week
National average prices of Euro-super 95 petrol and diesel, all taxes included, reported every week by each EU country to the European Commission — one tidy panel, in euros and in national currency per litre, plus the Commission’s own consumption-weighted EU27 and euro-area averages.

Mean, median, 10th and 90th percentile per market, fuel and day
For every market, fuel and day: mean, median, 10th and 90th percentile of pump prices and the number of stations, in euros and in national currency, with the ECB exchange rate used. Computed by us from the official national feeds, which we collect as often as each feed updates, from every 30 minutes to once a day.

Station-level prices: France, Italy, Spain, Croatia
Every fuel at every station, every day · one file per country and month
Every fuel at every station, every day: station ID, brand, city, region, coordinates, fuel, price, and — from 26 September 2026 — the time the station reported the price and the time we read it (left empty for 1.2% of those rows, where the station changed its price between our morning snapshot and our d4snap read (Bucharest time: 13:20 until 26 Sep 2026, 10:05 from 27 Sep); see the README). One file per country and month. Only these four countries: their governments publish the data under an open licence, which travels with the files.

Licences checked at the source on 14 August 2026; the United Kingdom entry corrected on 26 September 2026; Greece, Iceland, Romania and the excluded markets checked again on 27 September 2026. Where a source has published no licence, we do not claim one for its data.
Method and data quality
How each number is made
- Weekly bulletin (D1). Each EU country reports its national average pump prices, taxes included, to the European Commission; we import every bulletin and re-align the last 52 weeks with the Commission’s history file every week, because the Commission revises some weeks after publication. The build of D1 stops if any cell differs from that file. Weeks for which the Commission has no price for a country are not in the file; a fuel missing in a week is an empty cell, never zero. National-currency prices are the Commission’s euro price before rounding × the ECB reference rate of the bulletin date, rounded once at the end, or use the fixed conversion rate from the day it was fixed (HRK 7.53450 from 12 July 2022, BGN 1.95583 from 8 July 2025, and likewise for the earlier euro changeovers); before that day, the ECB rate.
- Daily statistics (D2, D3). Each day we keep, for every station and fuel, the price the source lists as current, and compute the unweighted mean (every station counts once), the median and the 10th and 90th percentile; the EU averages in D1 are the Commission’s consumption-weighted ones. The daily snapshot is taken between 09:35 and 10:00 Bucharest time, and
dateis the calendar day in Bucharest time. Station markets need at least 25% of their usual number of stations for a day to count; regions need at least 3 stations. - Freshness. A station price counts on a day only if we read it from the source feed in the 48 hours before that day’s snapshot (France: 6 hours from 24 September 2026, as its feed is re-read every 72 minutes; United Kingdom: 7 days, because its feed time moves only when a price changes). A station that leaves a feed drops out within that window; before version 2026-09.3 its last price was carried forward. Our live pages also drop prices older than 7 days by the source’s own timestamp, so their averages can still differ by a few cents. The column
share_changed_7dtells you how many stations changed their price in the previous 7 days. - Cleaning and duplicates. Prices of zero, and prices below half or above twice the day’s median for that market and fuel, are removed and counted in
n_excluded. The station files (D4) apply the same rule plus the price floor used on our live pages (0.30 €/L; Italy 1.30 €/L; LPG, CNG, LNG 0.15), which removes source placeholders such as 8.888 or 0.01; the number removed from each file is in the D4 README. The daily snapshot holds one price per station, fuel and day, so there are no duplicates. - Gaps. Days on which a feed failed are missing; nothing is interpolated. A day is flagged
low_coverage(partial) when its number of stations is below 80% of the median for that market and fuel over the days within 30 days before and after it (with fewer than 10 such days, the median of the last 60 days); the same days are left out of our news series and press records. Complete days vary by less than 1–2% from one day to the next, partial days sit at 25–60% (rule since version 2026-09.6). Known gaps are listed in the changelog. - Exchange rates. ECB euro reference rates of the day (or the last fixing before it).
- Fuel names. To compare markets, filter on
fuel_family(petrol, diesel, LPG, E85);fuel_labelnames the exact grade in each market. Since version 2026-09.5 no fuel code crosses families (UK premium diesel isdiesel_premium). - Not in the files. Australia, Türkiye, Sweden, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Lithuania are not in the files (see Licences).
