The fuel-prices.eu data desk

The data desk is the team and the pipeline behind every price report on this site. It is not a pen name for a person: the articles are generated from fixed sentence templates and figures computed from stored price data, and the desk is responsible for the templates, the rules and the corrections.

What the desk is responsible for

The desk defines which price categories are used, how a daily national average is computed, when a movement is worth an article and when it is not, and which sentence may be used for which event. It approves every template before a language is allowed to publish, and it is the address for corrections. The rules themselves are public: how we calculate.

Which sources we work from

For Romania the prices come from Monitorul Prețurilor Carburanților, the public price monitor run by Consiliul Concurenței, where station operators report their pump prices. We collect them every two hours and keep every reading, which is what lets an article be checked against the data it was written from.
