Fuel price data for journalists
fuel-prices.eu publishes station-level fuel prices, collected several times a day, from 21 live markets and the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin for all 27 EU countries, with an archive back to 1986. You can quote everything on this page with a link.
Latest figures
Two different kinds of data, each with its own date: the weekly EU bulletin (one official average per country) and our live station feeds.
Weekly EU Weekly Oil Bulletin — prices of 21 Sep 2026
National average pump prices including taxes, in euro per litre, reported by each EU country to the European Commission (DG ENER). One figure per country and fuel; updated once a week.
EU average, European Commission weighted, prices of 21 Sep 2026: Euro-super 95 petrol €2.092/L; diesel €2.226/L. This is the Commission’s own EU figure: the 27 national prices weighted by each country’s fuel consumption — the one most news reports quote as “the EU average”.
Not the same number: the simple average of 27 national averages (every country counts equally), which other pages of this site show as “EU average”, is €1.959/L for petrol and €2.138/L for diesel for the same week. It is lower because the largest markets are among the more expensive ones. Quote the Commission’s weighted figure.

Live Live national averages — read 26 Sep 2026, 07:47 CEST
Simple average of the current pump prices of the stations present in each country’s official price feed, collected several times a day. Shown in the local currency, with the euro value at the European Central Bank rate of 25 Sep 2026. The ranking compares the 20 live markets that publish pump prices; each figure carries its own collection time.

Petrol = the market’s standard 95-octane grade (E10 where the source says so); diesel = standard diesel. The name each national source uses for the fuel is in the CSV. Sweden is not ranked: chain list prices, not pump prices.
Live or weekly? Please check before you write “live”.
- Live station averages (21 markets): Andorra, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden (chain list prices, not pump prices), Turkey, United Kingdom.
- Weekly EU bulletin only: every other EU country — for example the Netherlands and Finland. Cite those figures as “EU Weekly Oil Bulletin, via fuel-prices.eu”, with the bulletin date.
- Official maximum price: Belgium and Luxembourg cap the pump price by law — one national maximum per fuel, VAT included. A new maximum is set only when product quotations move enough (Belgium: the programme contract with the oil sector; Luxembourg: the Ministry of the Economy), often several times a month, and each one is announced the day before it applies. Current maximum and every change: Belgium (source: FPS Economy), Luxembourg (source: Ministry of the Economy, guichet.lu). Both countries are also in the weekly bulletin.
The bulletin figure is the national average each government reports to the European Commission for the bulletin date. The live figure is the simple average of the prices currently in the national station feed. They are not comparable one-to-one, even for the same country.
Why live and weekly numbers differ
The two sets of figures above are measured differently and on different days, so for the same country they rarely match exactly. Live is the average of the station prices in the national feed when we last collected it. Weekly is the national average each government reports to the European Commission for the Bulletin date (21 Sep 2026). The table compares the two for every live market that is also in the Bulletin; a gap of more than 5% is flagged and explained below.

More than 5% apart
- Denmark, Euro-super 95: Denmark’s Bulletin figure is not a pump-price survey: the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority reports current consumer prices minus the previous quarter’s average discounts (Commission country notes). Our figure is the pump price the brands publish through their legally mandated price APIs. Over the 10 bulletins from 20 July to 21 September 2026, the Bulletin’s Danish Euro-super 95 was 8.8–12.1% above our weekly average pump price and 0.9–4.6% above Drivkraft Danmark’s daily recommended retail price; for diesel the two stayed within 5%.
Live values are the ones in the “Live” table above, converted to euro at the same ECB rate; Bulletin values are the ones in the “Weekly” table. The difference is recomputed with every refresh of this page.

How the data works
- Weekly: each EU country reports national average pump prices, taxes included, to the European Commission; we import every bulletin, back to 1 Aug 1986.
- Live: in 21 markets we collect every station’s price from the official national feed, several times a day, and average them per fuel.
- Live prices stay in the local currency; the euro values here use the European Central Bank reference rate.
- The EU average on this page is the European Commission’s: the national bulletin prices weighted by each country’s fuel consumption, as published in the Weekly Oil Bulletin. Where this site shows its own “EU average” elsewhere, it is the simple mean of the 27 national averages, not weighted by consumption.
- Every figure keeps its date; nothing is estimated or filled in when a source is late.
