Italy diesel at €2.25/l, the highest in our series since 26 June 2026

On 16 September 2026, the national average price of diesel in Italy reached €2.25/l, the highest value in our daily series, which covers 26 June – 16 September 2026. That is €0.009 a litre above the previous peak of €2.26/l, recorded on 15 September 2026.

Correction (27 September 2026): 25 June 2026 was a partial day (only a little over half of the usual number of stations reported), which our daily series leaves out, so the period now starts on 26 June 2026, the first complete day. Correction (30 October 2026): the Italian price history was rebuilt from the official MIMIT archive. Before, at some stations the standard diesel or petrol series had picked up other products (Blue Diesel, HVO, attended-service prices), so the daily averages were slightly off. Source and method

Prices are reported by station operators to Osservaprezzi Carburanti (Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy). We collect them once a day and calculate the averages in this article ourselves. The national average is the unweighted mean of the 21,118 stations that reported a valid price for diesel, after we drop readings outside our plausibility range. Full method: how we calculate.
