Belgium caps the pump price of every road fuel: the FPS Economy publishes an official maximum price per litre, VAT included, valid nationwide. Stations may sell below it, never above. The new maximum is published the day before it applies.

- The diesel B7 maximum changed 6 times in the last 30 days and 64 times in 12 months; Euro 95 E10 1 and 44 times.
- Biggest one-day rise in 12 months: Diesel B7 +0.182 €/L on 22 March 2026 (2.107 → 2.289 €/L).
- A 50-litre fill at the maximum costs €120.25 in diesel B7 today, vs €112.05 30 days ago (+€8.20). Euro 95 E10: €102.90 vs €98.30.
- Stations do sell below the cap: in the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin of 21 September 2026, Belgium's average pump price was 1.988 €/L for Euro-super 95 and 2.387 €/L for diesel — 3.4 % and 3.3 % under that day's maximum (2.058 and 2.468 €/L).

How Belgium's maximum fuel price works
Belgian pump prices are capped under the programme contract between the Belgian state and the oil sector. The FPS Economy computes a maximum price for each product from the international product quotations, plus a fixed distribution margin, excise duties and VAT. When the quotations move enough, a new maximum is published — typically several times a month, always the day before it applies.
It is a ceiling, not the price you will always pay: unmanned and supermarket stations often sell a few cents below it, while motorway stations usually charge the maximum. The distribution margin inside the formula is reviewed every 1 April and 1 October.

Can a Belgian station charge more than the maximum?
No. The maximum is a legal ceiling per litre, VAT included. Stations may sell below it — and many do — but not above.
When does the maximum price change?
Whenever the international product quotations move enough. The FPS Economy publishes the new maximum the day before it applies, so this page can already show tomorrow's maximum. In the last 12 months the diesel B7 maximum changed 64 times.
Why is fuel cheaper in Luxembourg?
Luxembourg also sets a national maximum, but with lower excise duties and VAT. Today its maximum is 1.835 €/L for Euro 95 and 2.095 €/L for diesel.
