986 towns in 105 counties and council areas, with 2 189 stations between them. That is every station whose address we can tie to a named town — see the next answer for the ones we cannot.
The UK price feed has no town field. We read the town out of each station address, and for about a third of them the address ends in a street, a postcode or a motorway junction instead — "Guildford Road", "WA15 8EX", "M5 Eastbound J7/8". Rather than print those as if they were places, we leave them out of these lists. They are all still on the live map and on their own station pages.
From the town, not from the postcode. UK postcode areas are drawn around sorting offices and deliberately cross county borders — SK covers Stockport in Greater Manchester, Macclesfield in Cheshire and Buxton in Derbyshire — so a postcode cannot tell you a county. Each town here is placed in its own county, council area or, in Northern Ireland, traditional county, and the postcode areas are shown underneath only as a landmark.
