help Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a 1-day vignette for Slovakia?
No, the shortest option is 10 days (€8.10). Unlike Czech Republic which offers a 1-day option, Slovakia starts at 10 days minimum.
I'm driving Vienna to Budapest. Do I need a Slovak vignette?
If you take the direct route via Bratislava using Slovak motorways, yes. The Bratislava bypass (D1/D4) requires a vignette. Alternative: Take the Hungarian M1 directly from Austria (longer route).
Can I use the Czech e-dálnice in Slovakia?
No, each country has its own vignette system. If traveling through both countries, you need separate vignettes for Czech Republic AND Slovakia.
Is the e-známka a sticker or digital?
100% digital. The e-známka is linked to your license plate number. You won't receive any physical sticker. Make sure to save your confirmation email.
What's the difference between 365-day and annual vignette?
The Slovak vignette is "365-day" – meaning exactly 365 days from purchase date. It's not a calendar year like some other countries. If you buy on July 15, it's valid until July 14 next year.
Can I drive to Ukraine through Slovakia?
Yes! Slovakia shares a border with Ukraine (Vyšné Nemecké/Uzhhorod crossing). You'll need the Slovak e-známka for motorways. Ukraine doesn't require a vignette.
Do rental cars have e-známka included?
It depends on the rental company. Slovak rentals often include it, but international rentals entering Slovakia usually don't. Always verify at eznamka.sk before driving on motorways.
