Distances are by road from each station to the return-point pin, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap data (31 Oct 2026), without traffic: we show no driving times. A station marked “route not verified” may still need a detour; road data does not tell us which pump is easiest to reach.

Is a cheaper station worth the detour?
This calculator needs JavaScript. The list above shows every price.
Litres you expect to fill
Pick your fuel above to compare two stations.
Gross saving = litres × the price difference between the two stations, for the same fuel. The detour fuel is shown separately and only if you enter the extra distance. Time is not turned into money, and rental-company refuelling charges are not included. Check whether the saving is worth the extra drive.
Before you hand back the keys
Check the fuel policy in your contract. Full-to-full, pre-paid fuel and refuelling charges differ by company and by booking.
Keep the fuel receipt. Some companies ask for it. Hertz’s fuel policy for Europe, for example, asks you to refill “within 10 miles/15 km of the return location” and to bring the receipt. Source: Hertz Other companies have other rules.
Photograph the fuel gauge and mileage when you park, for your own records.
Check the return address and the out-of-hours procedure (key box, desk opening hours).
Allow time for the shuttle if you return to an off-site depot.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a petrol station at Madrid Airport?
Yes. MITECO lists an airport-zone station for Terminals 1–3 and one for Terminal 4, both reporting 24-hour opening. Aena lists them as its licensed service stations. Source: Aena
How far apart are Terminal 1 and Terminal 4?
They are separate return areas, about 3.7 km apart in a straight line (our measurement between the two terminals). Check which one your voucher names before you refuel.
Which pump do I use: “Gasolina 95 E5” or “Gasóleo A”?
Gasolina 95 E5 is unleaded petrol 95, Gasóleo A is diesel. Check the label inside the fuel flap or the rental documents. Go by the label, not by the colour of the pump handle.
Are these prices live?
They are the prices stations reported to Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition, as of our most recent fetch shown at the top. The Ministry’s file has one time for the whole file, not one per station, so we show when we last saw each price in the file. Check the price at the pump.
Why is the cheapest station not always first?
Because a small saving is rarely worth a detour or a wrong turn before a flight. The default order puts a documented stop on your way first, then the airport-area station, then the nearest. You can switch to “Lowest price” at any time.
Can I pay with a foreign card at an unattended station?
Some official records report card-operated pumps (for example “Automate CB 24/24” in France). They do not confirm whether a foreign-issued card will be accepted. If you return the car at night, prefer a station that reports 24-hour opening and carry a backup payment method.
What if I am returning an electric car?
Check the battery level your rental agreement asks for. This page covers fuel stations only; it does not list charging points.
