€48 per 1,000 litres is 4.8 cents per litre; with 20% VAT on top, that is about 5.8 cents per litre less for both petrol and diesel, if the pre-tax price stays the same. In the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, the Austrian average on 5 October 2026 was €1.837 per litre of Eurosuper 95 and €2.138 per litre of diesel.

How long

The ordinance applies until 31 October 2026. It is based on § 64(5) of the Mineral Oil Tax Act 2022 (BGBl. I No. 82/2026), which lets the finance minister cut the rates by at most €67 per 1,000 litres, one calendar month at a time, until 30 November 2026 at the latest. No ordinance for November has been published yet.
