From 6 to 12 October 2026, Croatia’s excise duty is €260 per 1,000 litres of diesel and €397.31 per 1,000 litres of unleaded petrol. From 29 September to 5 October the excise on diesel was €250 per 1,000 litres; the rate for petrol was the same as now. The Croatian government set the rates in a regulation amending the Regulation on excise duties on energy products and electricity, adopted on 5 October 2026 (Narodne novine, the Official Gazette, No. 113/2026).

What it means at the pump
€10 per 1,000 litres is 1 cent per litre; with 25% VAT that is about 1.25 cents more per litre of diesel, if the pre-tax price stays the same. The excise on petrol does not change. In the European Commission’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, the Croatian average on 5 October 2026 was €1.984 per litre of diesel and €1.827 per litre of Eurosuper 95 petrol. Those prices still include the €250 per 1,000 litres excise on diesel.
How long
The rates are set until 12 October 2026. The Croatian Government sets excise duty rates on motor fuels by regulation every week, under Article 97(2) of the Excise Duty Act. The rate from 13 October onwards had not yet been published in the Official Gazette on 9 October 2026.
A correction in our data
The European Commission’s tax sheet in the bulletin of 5 October 2026 still listed €230 per 1,000 litres for diesel, the rate that applied from 22 to 28 September. Our price breakdown pages show the rates from the Official Gazette.
