info Why the 18-day delay?
For 2-month and annual digital vignettes bought online, EU consumer protection law gives you a 14-day right of withdrawal. ASFINAG adds 4 days for processing, making it valid from the 18th day. Tip: Buy at a gas station or sales point for immediate validity!
Only buy from shop.asfinag.at or authorized resellers. Fake websites charge up to 3x the price and may not deliver valid vignettes. When in doubt, check the official ASFINAG website.

help Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a vignette for a rental car in Austria?
It depends on the rental company. Many include a digital vignette, but not all. Always check with your rental company or verify the license plate at shop.asfinag.at before driving on motorways.
Can I use Austrian motorways without a vignette?
No, but you can use regular federal and provincial roads without a vignette. Some short border sections are also exempt (see above). Use Google Maps and select "avoid tolls" to plan a route without motorways.
I'm just transiting through Austria to Italy. Which vignette do I need?
For a transit trip, the 1-day (€9.60) or 10-day (€12.80) vignette is most cost-effective. Note that if you're crossing the Brenner Pass (A13), you'll also need to pay the section toll.
Where should I place the adhesive vignette sticker?
For cars: Inside the windscreen, top-left corner or behind the rear-view mirror. It must be clearly visible and not covered by any tinted strip. For motorcycles: On a permanent, visible part like the tank or fork leg.
Can I remove and reattach the vignette sticker?
No! The adhesive vignette can only be stuck once. If you remove it, it becomes invalid. This is why many drivers prefer the digital vignette.
Do electric vehicles (EVs) get a discount on the vignette?
Currently, no. All vehicles up to 3.5t pay the same vignette price regardless of fuel type. However, this may change in future years as Austria considers emissions-based pricing.
I'm pulling a trailer. Do I need two vignettes?
No. If your car + trailer combination is 3.5t or less total weight, only the car needs a vignette. Above 3.5t total weight, you need a GO-Box system instead.
