How to read the chart: the shaded band holds the middle 80% of all weeks since 2005 (10th to 90th percentile) and the line inside it is the median, both for the prices selected. The percentile counts the earlier weeks that were strictly cheaper, truncated (not rounded) to one decimal; “record” means that no earlier week was as dear or dearer. Adjusted for inflation: each week × HICP for September 2026 ÷ HICP for the month of that week, so every price is in September 2026 money; weeks after September 2026 are not adjusted yet. Index: Eurostat, harmonised index of consumer prices, all items (prc_hicp_minr, 2025 = 100), reused with acknowledgement of the source.

National average including all taxes from the European Commission’s EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (CC BY 4.0): 1,088 weeks since 3 January 2005. Our own calculation.

    Methodology
    • Weekly series: national average pump price with all taxes, reported by Belgium to the European Commission (prices on Monday, according to the Commission’s methodology note for Belgium) and published in the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (Commission’s methodology note for Belgium). 1,088 weeks, 3 Jan 2005 – 19 Oct 2026; 50 weeks with no publication (mostly public holidays) are missing and are not filled in.
    • Fuels: the bulletin reports Euro-super 95 (95-octane petrol) and automotive diesel for every EU country; LPG (autogas) comes from the Commission’s price history file of the bulletin and is missing where a country does not report it.
    • EU weighted average (EU-27): calculated by the European Commission and weighted by each country’s fuel consumption. LPG (autogas) comes from the same source (the bulletin’s “Prices with taxes” table).
    • Records: see the “Records” section; the first week in which the value was reached is counted.
    • Events: start date as given by the linked source; the coloured area shows the period in which the event shaped the market (this page’s timeline).

Why does this page not show prices at individual petrol stations?

This page uses only the official average that Belgium reports to the European Commission each week: it is published under an open licence (CC BY 4.0) and calculated in the same way for every EU country, so the EU ranking, the neighbouring countries and the tax breakdown can all be compared.
