How to read the chart: the shaded band holds the middle 80% of all weeks since 2005 (10th to 90th percentile) and the line inside it is the median, both for the prices selected. The percentile counts the earlier weeks that were strictly cheaper, truncated (not rounded) to one decimal; “record” means that no earlier week was as dear or dearer. Adjusted for inflation: each week × HICP for September 2026 ÷ HICP for the month of that week, so every price is in September 2026 money; weeks after September 2026 are not adjusted yet. Index: Eurostat, harmonised index of consumer prices, all items (prc_hicp_minr, 2025 = 100), reused with acknowledgement of the source. In euros, the inflation-adjusted price in PLN is converted at the exchange rate of the latest week.

National average including all taxes from the European Commission’s EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (CC BY 4.0): 1,090 weeks since 3 January 2005. Our own calculation.

Method as on the press page: record = highest or lowest national average price with all taxes in the bulletin; in the event of a tie, the first week counts. The record can fall in a different week in each currency because of the exchange rate.

    Methodology
    • Weekly series: national average pump price with all taxes, reported by Poland to the European Commission (prices on Monday, according to the Commission’s methodology note for Poland) and published in the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (Commission’s methodology note for Poland). 1,090 weeks, 3 Jan 2005 – 26 Oct 2026; 49 weeks with no publication (mostly public holidays) are missing and are not filled in.
    • Fuels: the bulletin reports Euro-super 95 (95-octane petrol) and automotive diesel for every EU country; LPG (autogas) comes from the Commission’s price history file of the bulletin and is missing where a country does not report it.
    • PLN and euros: the bulletin publishes prices in euros; the PLN value = the euro value divided by the exchange rate used in the bulletin for that week. The PLN series therefore also reflects movements in the exchange rate.
    • EU weighted average (EU-27): calculated by the European Commission and weighted by each country’s fuel consumption. LPG (autogas) comes from the same source (the bulletin’s “Prices with taxes” table).
    • Records: see the “Records” section; the first week in which the value was reached is counted.
    • Events: start date as given by the linked source; the coloured area shows the period in which the event shaped the market (this page’s timeline).

According to the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (bulletin of 26 October 2026, received by us on 29 October 2026), the national average price of diesel in Poland is €1.781/L, including all taxes. This is the average price on Monday that Poland reports to the European Commission, not a current price at individual petrol stations. The national average for diesel in the week of 26 October 2026 is higher than in 98.4% of all weeks since 2005 (nominal, not adjusted for inflation). Last time it was this expensive or more expensive: October 2026 (week of 12 Oct 2026).

What is the petrol price in Poland?

According to the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (bulletin of 26 October 2026, received by us on 29 October 2026), the national average price of petrol (Euro-super 95) in Poland is €1.467/L, including all taxes. This is the average price on Monday that Poland reports to the European Commission, not a current price at individual petrol stations. The national average for petrol (Euro-super 95) in the week of 26 October 2026 is higher than in 89.3% of all weeks since 2005 (nominal, not adjusted for inflation). Last time it was this expensive or more expensive: October 2026 (week of 19 Oct 2026).

Why does this page not show prices at individual petrol stations?

This page uses only the official average that Poland reports to the European Commission each week: it is published under an open licence (CC BY 4.0) and calculated in the same way for every EU country, so the EU ranking, the neighbouring countries and the tax breakdown can all be compared.

Is fuel expensive in Poland compared with the rest of the EU?

In the week of 26 October 2026, Poland ranked 2 out of 27 for petrol (Euro-super 95) and 2 out of 27 for diesel (1 = cheapest). Petrol was 24.9% below the EU weighted average (€1.954/L), and diesel 17.0% below the EU weighted average of €2.146/L.

Is fuel expensive at the moment compared with previous years?

The national average for petrol (Euro-super 95) in the week of 26 October 2026 is higher than in 89.3% of all weeks since 2005 (nominal, not adjusted for inflation). Last time it was this expensive or more expensive: October 2026 (week of 19 Oct 2026). The national average for diesel in the week of 26 October 2026 is higher than in 98.4% of all weeks since 2005 (nominal, not adjusted for inflation). Last time it was this expensive or more expensive: October 2026 (week of 12 Oct 2026). The comparison is in nominal terms and not adjusted for inflation.

Is it worth refuelling in a neighbouring country?

According to the bulletin, none of the neighbouring countries is cheaper than Poland for petrol (Euro-super 95). These are national averages: prices at the border can differ, and the journey there also uses fuel.

What does a full tank cost?

Using the bulletin of 26 October 2026: 50 litres of petrol (Euro-super 95) cost about €73.36, 50 litres of diesel about €89.06 and 40 litres of LPG (autogas) about €32.52. For LPG we assume 40 litres, because a 50-litre LPG tank is only filled to about 80%.

    Is diesel cheaper than petrol?

In the week of 26 October 2026, diesel cost €0.314 per litre more than petrol (Euro-super 95). The excise duty on diesel is 8.15 cents per litre lower than on petrol. The rest of the difference lies in the price before tax: after the taxes in force, €1.328/L is left for diesel against €1.011/L for petrol (our calculation). The chart “Diesel minus petrol (Euro-super 95)” shows the trend.

How much of the fuel price is tax?

In the bulletin of 26 October 2026, taxes made up 31.1% of the price of petrol (Euro-super 95) and 25.4% of the price of diesel: excise duty of €0.281 (petrol) and €0.200 (diesel) per litre and VAT at 8%, plus the fuel and emission charges of €0.066 (petrol) and €0.121 (diesel) per litre (European Commission, EU Weekly Oil Bulletin).

How often are the prices updated?

Once a week: the European Commission publishes the Weekly Oil Bulletin a few days after the reference day; the bulletin for the week of 26 October 2026 reached us on 29 October 2026. This page checks every hour whether new data are available.
