Poland: Petrol falls below €1.80/l
On 5 October 2026 the national average went from €1.85/l to €1.52/l.
Germany: Diesel falls below €2.40/l
On 5 October 2026 the national average went from €2.44/l to €2.25/l.
Spain: deeper cut in the tax on petrol for October 2026
From 1 to 31 October 2026, 95-octane petrol is taxed at €272.69 per 1,000 litres (€422.69 in September): about 18 cents per litre less with VAT. Diesel stays at €179 per 1,000 litres.
Germany: energy tax on petrol and diesel cut until the end of 2026
From 1 October to 31 December 2026: petrol €514.10 instead of €654.50 and diesel €330.00 instead of €470.40 per 1,000 litres, about 16.7 cents less per litre including VAT.
Croatia: higher excise on diesel from 6 October 2026
From 6 to 12 October 2026 Croatia’s excise on diesel is €260 per 1,000 litres (was €250): about 1.25 cents per litre more, VAT included. Petrol unchanged.
Croatia: Diesel falls below €2/l
On 5 October 2026 the national average went from €2.04/l to €1.98/l.
Poland: 8% VAT and lower fuel excise until the end of 2026
From 3 October to 31 December 2026 VAT on petrol and diesel is 8% instead of 23%, excise PLN 1,239 and PLN 880 per 1,000 litres; maximum pump prices are published (notice of 7 October: petrol 95 PLN 6.83/l, diesel PLN 7.74/l).
Portugal: new fuel tax rates from 5 October
Ordinance 448-A/2026/1: the ISP rises by €4.06 (petrol) and €3.09 (diesel) per 1,000 litres on the previous week, about 0.5 and 0.4 cents per litre, VAT included.
Cyprus: fuel excise cut extended until 30 November
Petrol €359 (regular €429) and diesel €330 (regular €400) per 1,000 litres until 30 November 2026: about 8.33 cents per litre less, VAT included.
Sweden: higher tax on petrol and diesel from 1 October
The reduced energy tax ended on 30 September. With VAT that is about SEK 1.03 more per litre of petrol and SEK 0.40 per litre of diesel; the CO2 tax stays reduced until 30 November.
Latvia: lower fuel excise until the end of 2026
From 1 October to 31 December 2026 petrol €490 (was €555) and diesel €330 (was €396) per 1,000 litres: about 8 cents per litre less, VAT included.
Czechia: lower excise on diesel in October 2026
From 1 to 31 October 2026 the government waives CZK 1,939 of excise per 1,000 litres of diesel: about CZK 2.35 per litre less, VAT included. Petrol unchanged.
Austria: fuel excise cut for October 2026
Petrol €415 and diesel €330 per 1,000 litres from 1 to 31 October 2026 (BGBl. II No. 289/2026): about 5.8 cents per litre less, VAT included.
Spain: Petrol down 1.7%, to €1.82/l
On 2 October 2026 the national average moved from €1.85/l to €1.82/l.
